A Chief Magistrate Court in Warri, Delta State, has convicted nine individuals from the Egrangbene community in a forgery case brought against them by the Commissioner of Police.
The convicted individuals are Abemor Borikere, Selekowei Bruce, Bioukeme Benibo, Safademebo Eniyegbolokumor, Brobo Alele, Yougha Egboge, Bonke England, Chief Djokari Meli, and Chief Lawyer Olotuyei.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate E.O. Odjugo, delivered its judgment on November 18, 2024. The ruling found all nine defendants guilty on several counts, including conspiracy, forgery, and aiding and abetting. According to the court, the defendants were guilty of counts I, II, III, IV, V, VI, and IX of the charges brought against them. However, they were acquitted on count VIII.
The case stemmed from a nine-count amended charge filed by the police, with offenses punishable under various sections of the Criminal Code of Delta State. These included conspiracy under Section 516, forgery under Section 467, and aiding and abetting under Section 7 of the Criminal Code.
Despite initially pleading not guilty, the court ultimately determined their guilt. As stated in the judgment, the court found sufficient evidence to convict them on most of the charges, solidifying the case brought by the prosecution.
