President Biden bows to family pressure, Pardons Son Following Federal Convictions

President Joe Biden has granted a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, who was convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year. The White House confirmed the decision in a statement released on Sunday night.

Hunter Biden, 54, had pleaded guilty to a felony tax charge in September and was also convicted of making a false statement in a gun-related case. In his statement, President Biden expressed his support for his son, stating, “Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter.”

The president emphasized his commitment to not interfering with the Justice Department’s processes, noting that despite the challenges, he had kept his word in allowing the legal proceedings to unfold independently.

Biden further commented that his son had been unfairly prosecuted, asserting, “It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.”

This move marks a significant shift from the president’s earlier stance, as he had previously indicated he would not intervene in his son’s legal matters.
