Lakurawa Terror Group behind Zamfara bomb explosion – Police confirms

The Zamfara State Police Command has identified a new terror group, Lakurawa, as the perpetrators behind recent explosions in two villages in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area.

State Police Commissioner Muhammad Dalijan disclosed this during a phone interview with Daily Trust, confirming that an explosion occurred on Wednesday morning at Yar Tasha village along Dansadau Road. According to Dalijan, the incident happened when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers to Dansadau ran over an explosive device suspected to have been planted by the terrorists.

“One person was killed, and three others sustained injuries in the blast,” Dalijan said. He added, “Preliminary investigations suggest the explosive was planted by remnants of the Lakurawa group, who are under intense pressure from Nigerian security forces to leave the country. They are attempting to move into the Birnin-Gwari forest through Zamfara State.”

Dalijan further revealed that Wednesday’s bomb explosion is the second of such attack within a week. On Sunday, a similar explosive device planted at Mai-Gungume village along the same road killed another commercial driver.

He emphasized the determination of security forces to eliminate the threat posed by Lakurawa, saying, “By the grace of God, we will locate them and deal with them decisively.”
