The Kannywood film industry is grieving the loss of acclaimed Hausa singer and actor, El-Mu’az Muhammad Birniwa, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Abba El-Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post early Thursday. According to reports, El-Mu’az collapsed while playing football in Kaduna and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
His funeral prayer is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday at the Zangon Daura Mosque in Kaduna.
El-Mu’az, originally from Birniwa in Jigawa State, was a celebrated figure in Kannywood, widely admired for his contributions to Hausa culture through music and film. His works not only entertained but also highlighted the richness of Hausa traditions, earning him a devoted following.
