President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has stated that only irrational individuals would engage in prolonged conflicts with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Friday during a public lecture and book launch to celebrate Wike’s birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio seemingly referenced the ongoing tensions between Wike and his successor as Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
As the Special Guest of Honour at the event, Akpabio critiqued Governor Fubara’s management of the state’s political challenges, particularly his relationship with the state legislature. He highlighted the critical need for governors to foster good relationships with legislative leaders, drawing from his own experience as the former governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“For those who may not understand politics, we were taught that the parliament can turn a woman into a man and a man into a woman,” Akpabio said. “As a governor, my greatest fear was my House of Assembly. That’s why I always worked closely with my Speaker.”
He praised Wike’s ability to move past disagreements quickly, adding, “No one in their right senses would sustain a quarrel with Wike.”
Addressing Wike directly, Akpabio commended his contributions to Nigeria’s political development, both as a governor and now as a minister. “Your contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape are indelible. The bridges you’ve built stand as a testament to your commitment to progress and unity,” he said.
