The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has announced that combined efforts by the military, police, and other security agencies in 2024 led to significant achievements, including the elimination of 8,034 terrorists and the arrest of 11,623 suspected terrorists.
Additionally, 7,967 kidnapped victims were rescued.
Zakari Mijinyawa, Director of Legal Services and Coordinator of Strategic Communications at ONSA, disclosed these figures during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Key Security Achievements
Mijinyawa detailed the recovery of 10,200 weapons and 224,709 rounds of ammunition from terrorists and non-state actors. A total of 30,313 suspected criminals were apprehended, while 1,438 stolen vehicles were recovered.
Efforts to combat oil theft saved the nation ₦57 billion in revenue and raised crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day. Advanced naval deployments, including personnel, helicopters, and UAVs, facilitated these outcomes.
“Between August and November, the Nigerian Navy dismantled over 76 illegal refinery sites, arrested 52 suspects, and seized large quantities of stolen crude oil and refined products,” Mijinyawa revealed.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) reported overseeing the custody of over 80,000 inmates while supervising 50,000 offenders on non-custodial measures such as community service and probation.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) reported overseeing the custody of over 80,000 inmates while supervising 50,000 offenders on non-custodial measures such as community service and probation.

Education support for 2,000 candidates sitting for the WASSCE and the graduation of 1,000 inmates with diplomas and degrees from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The NCoS also introduced initiatives like a dedicated studio and starter packages to aid ex-offenders in their reintegration into society.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) achieved significant success in combating drug trafficking, arresting 14,480 individuals, including 15 drug barons. The agency secured 2,867 convictions and seized 2.37 million kilograms of illicit drugs.
“Under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, the NDLEA sensitized over 1.3 million people and provided rehabilitation for 6,655 individuals,” Mijinyawa added.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) exceeded its revenue target, collecting ₦5.49 trillion—a surplus of 8.1%. It also recorded a 70% increase in monthly revenue and implemented significant measures to improve trade facilitation.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) deployed e-border solutions and engaged with border communities to enhance border security.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC): Conducted rescue operations for 7,872 crashes, saving over 52,000 individuals. It also recovered 72 stolen vehicles and produced 740,000 vehicle plates registered under the NVIS portal.
Federal Fire Service (FFS): Responded to 1,366 fire incidents, saving 292 lives and protecting property worth ₦1.27 trillion.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA): Distributed 42,000 metric tons of food to vulnerable populations across the nation.
Mijinyawa praised the dedication of security and response agencies, emphasizing their resilience in addressing evolving challenges. He commended their bravery and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.
“These achievements reflect a commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of Nigeria, and we salute the courage of all personnel involved in these operations,” he concluded.
