President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved N95 billion for the rehabilitation of over 16 dams in Kano State to boost irrigation farming and for the construction of the State Eastern Bypass Road, aimed at connecting the southern region to the city.
In a statement, the newly appointed Executive Director of Finance of the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, confirmed that a technical committee has been inaugurated to assess the dams, including Challawa Gorge and Tiga dams. He emphasized that this initiative would significantly enhance irrigation farming and agricultural productivity in the region, aligning with the vision of Hon. Minister Joseph Utsev to optimize water resource facilities in Kano.
Kwankwaso lauded Senator Kawu Sumaila for securing the funding and highlighted the contribution of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin in supporting the North West Development Commission. According to him, these efforts reflect the administration’s dedication to Kano’s development and the prosperity of the North West.
He assured that his appointment, along with a strong leadership team, has reignited their commitment to advancing the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” ensuring tangible benefits for Kano and the region by 2027. Kwankwaso also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullah Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other stakeholders for their unwavering support.
Highlighting Tinubu’s broader infrastructure goals, Kwankwaso underscored the administration’s commitment to completing the Kano-Kaduna-Abuja expressway and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline project, both expected to be completed in 2025. These projects, he affirmed, demonstrate the administration’s genuine focus on improving the quality of life in Kano and the northern region as a whole.
