Biden Declares January 9 National Day of Mourning for ex-president Jimmy Carter

U.S. President Joe Biden has declared January 9 a national day of mourning in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. Biden urged Americans to gather in places of worship on that day to pay tribute to the late leader.

“I call on the American people to assemble on that day in their respective places of worship, there to pay homage to the memory of President James Earl Carter, Jr. I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance,” Biden stated in an official proclamation from the White House.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, died in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday.
