Aba Power, an electricity distribution company in Nigeria, has announced an increase in electricity tariffs by more than 50% for customers in Abia State. The company shared this update in a notice posted on its official X account, confirming that the tariff hike has been approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The new tariff, which took effect on January 1, 2025, means that customers on Band A feeders will now pay between N219.70 and N241.45 per kilowatt-hour, compared to the previous rate of N99/kWh. Band B customers will pay between N180.77 and N203/kWh, while those on Band C feeders will pay between N145 and N205/kWh.
Aba DisCo explained that the increase was necessary due to the impact of Nigeria’s economic challenges on its operations. The company stated that the adjustment was approved by NERC to help it manage these challenges while maintaining high service standards for its customers.
In April last year, NERC had similarly approved an electricity tariff hike for other distribution companies in the country.
