The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has reassured its adhoc staff, who participated in the November 2, 2024, local government elections, that their entitlements will be paid soon.
This assurance follows growing concerns over a month-long delay in the disbursement of payments. The Commission addressed public speculation, dismissing claims that it had no intention of paying the workers.
In a statement released on Sunday by Afulike Don Christian, Special Assistant to the ABSIEC Chairman on Communication, Planning, and Strategy, the Commission described rumors of non-payment as baseless. It also criticized what it termed “mischief makers” for allegedly inciting protests among young people over the delay.
“The Commission wishes to state that its accounts department has already finalized plans with its lead bank to credit the individual accounts of the concerned staff in the next few hours,” the statement read.
ABSIEC emphasized its commitment to the “new Abia mantra,” which prioritizes fairness and ensures that all workers are compensated for their efforts. It urged the public to remain patient and disregard misleading narratives surrounding the payment process.
