The 27-year-old forward had an exceptional year, highlighted by his historic hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. This feat made him the first player to score a hat-trick in a major European final since 1975, leading Atalanta to a 3-0 victory and their first European trophy.
In addition to his club success, Lookman played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, contributing three goals during the tournament. His performances have been instrumental in both his club and national team’s successes over the past year.
Expressing his gratitude, Lookman stated, “It’s a massive honor to be recognized in this way. This award is not just for me but for everyone who has supported me throughout my career.”
Lookman becomes the seventh Nigerian to receive this accolade, following in the footsteps of players like Nwankwo Kanu and Emmanuel Amunike. His recognition underscores the significant impact he has had on African football in recent times.
