The immediate past lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has expressed grave concern over the escalating activities of unknown gunmen in Anambra State, describing the situation as a state under siege.
This follows Monday’s deadly attack in Ihiala Local Government Area, where seven people, including security personnel, were gruesomely killed by armed criminals wreaking havoc across the state.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ejiofor condemned the tragic events, calling them a stark reminder of the “siege our beloved state is under.” He described the murders as “unspeakable atrocities” and expressed deep sorrow and anger at the loss of lives. “Watching those harrowing clips fills me with grief and outrage. My heart bleeds,” he stated.
Ejiofor called on Governor Charles Soludo to shift focus from media rhetoric to tackling the perpetrators responsible for the violence. He referred to the assailants as “monsters in human form who thrive on shedding innocent blood.”
He urged every resident of Anambra to join the fight against insecurity, emphasizing that the burden is too heavy for the weakened state security apparatus alone. “This is a call for decisive and collective action. Every able-bodied son of Anambra must rise to the challenge and work together to eradicate these predators who terrorize and retreat into hiding,” he said.
Ejiofor also criticized political compromises that have endangered lives, urging the state government to deploy every available resource to protect its citizens. He decried the shielding of criminals within communities and called for an end to such acts of complicity.
“As we end the year on this heart-wrenching note, we must stand united and resolute. Anambra cannot remain a haven for such heinous crimes. Enough is enough,” he declared.
He concluded by calling for urgent and united action to reclaim peace and security in the state, stressing the need for strength and commitment to restoring dignity and safety to Anambra’s people.
