The kidnapped Anglican Archbishop, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, and his driver have regained their freedom after spending one month in captivity.
Archbishop Okpala, a retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi, confirmed his release in a brief post on his Facebook page on Thursday morning. He wrote, “Praise the Lord!”
The news of his release sparked joy and thanksgiving among many, with hundreds of people reacting to his post to celebrate his freedom.
Archbishop Okpala was abducted in December 2024 while traveling to Umuchu, a community in Anambra State, for a burial ceremony.
Although details surrounding his release are still unclear, the Anglican community is celebrating his safe return on various platforms, including the official Facebook page of St. Stephens Anglican Church, Nnewi.
This marks the end of a month-long ordeal for the clergyman and his driver.
