The Nigerian Army has announced that troops from the South-East Joint Task Force, Operation Udoka, engaged suspected terrorists during a clearance operation in Abia State, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
This was revealed in a statement by Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu on Monday night, detailing the operation conducted within a forest in Umuaku Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
The statement also confirmed that troops raided a camp allegedly operated by the Eastern Security Network in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area near the Imo River. The camp was destroyed, and weapons, vehicles, and other items were recovered. Similar raids were carried out in parts of Imo State, targeting other camps.
Metroblog had Earlier reported that soldiers from the 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State, were being involved in a shootout with unknown gunmen in Mbata, Umuchima village, within Isiala Ngwa North. The confrontation reportedly led to heightened tension in the area, prompting a military reinforcement of over 15 Hilux vehicles and armored personnel carriers, which arrived around 6 a.m.
The gunmen were said to be stationed near a river at the boundary between Abia and the Mbaise region of Imo State. Soldiers reportedly secured critical junctions leading to and from the village while other units continued operations in the surrounding forest to engage the attackers.
