Early Life and Education
Barry was born on November 26, 1976, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and raised in Maysville, Oklahoma. He played high school football at Maysville Junior-Senior High School and Ada High School, showcasing his talent as a linebacker and running back. Barry later attended the University of Missouri (Mizzou), where he played as a linebacker from 1996 to 1999. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1999 and earned a master’s degree in education in 2004.
Coaching Career
Barry began his coaching journey in 2000 as an assistant coach at Ada High School in Oklahoma. Over the years, he held various positions, including head coach at Rock Bridge High School in Missouri and administrative roles at the University of Missouri. His standout role as a defensive coordinator at the University of Memphis (2012–2014) earned him national recognition for transforming their defense into one of the best in the country.
In 2016, Barry was promoted to head coach at Missouri, where he coached until 2019. His tenure included rebuilding the team and achieving bowl game appearances. Following this, he joined Arkansas as an associate head coach and defensive coordinator (2020–2022)
In December 2022, Barry became the head coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Under his leadership, the UNLV Rebels experienced a resurgence, including their first bowl game appearance in a decade and a berth in the Mountain West Championship game in 2023

Barry Odom is married to Tritia, a graduate of the University of Missouri’s College of Human Environmental Sciences. The couple married in 2000 and have three children. His family remains a significant source of support throughout his career
