Bauchi Governor Promises Non-Interference in State Traffic Agency’s Operations

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has pledged that his administration will not interfere with the operations of the newly established Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) to maintain its professionalism and integrity.

Speaking on Saturday at the passing-out parade of the first batch of 500 Cadets and Marshals at Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, the governor emphasized that BAROTA was created to tackle road traffic issues, promote safety, and enforce laws across the state.

“The establishment of BAROTA arose from the urgent need to address road traffic management challenges, ensure safety, and enforce traffic laws in Bauchi State,” Governor Mohammed said. “My administration is committed to allowing BAROTA to function independently and professionally.”

According to the governor, BAROTA’s roles, as defined by its enabling law, include enforcing traffic laws, preventing accidents, advocating for road safety, and arresting offenders.

“Over the years, road accidents, traffic congestion, and disorder on our roads have negatively impacted our citizens,” he noted. “In response, we presented the Bauchi Road Traffic Agency Bill to the State House of Assembly in 2020. With its passage, BAROTA was established as a legal entity to safeguard lives and ensure efficient road transportation in the state.”

Governor Mohammed urged the cadets to serve with integrity, professionalism, and compassion, stressing the importance of their role in saving lives and preventing accidents. He warned against indiscipline, corruption, or abuse of power within the agency.
