Bayelsa Man Allegedly Kills Mother in Attempted Ritual

A 22-year-old man, identified as Godwin from the Elebele community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has allegedly stabbed his mother to death in a suspected attempt to use her for money rituals.

According to community sources, Godwin had recently returned to Elebele after spending months in Benin City, Edo State, where he reportedly attended a ‘yahoo-plus’ training center. Upon his return, he exhibited strange behavior, avoiding his childhood friends and claiming that a spiritual figure, referred to as “Baba,” had told him his deceased mother was holding back his destiny and wealth.

Comrade Precious Okala, the Youth President of Elebele Community, confirmed the incident, stating that his attention was drawn to the tragic event around 6 p.m. on the day it occurred.

“When I arrived at the scene, I found the deceased woman’s body and her son, who had been apprehended by the community youths,” he said.

According to Okala, reports indicated that Godwin had been acting strangely since his return from Benin City. On the day of the incident, an argument reportedly escalated into a struggle during which Godwin stabbed his mother in the stomach with a knife.

Eyewitnesses said Godwin openly claimed that a “Baba” had informed him that his mother was the cause of his delayed wealth and destiny.

A community youth, who requested anonymity, disclosed that Godwin was immediately handed over to the police from the Kolo Division.

The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident. He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The incident has left the Elebele community in shock, with many residents expressing disbelief over the young man’s actions. Community leaders and residents have called for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased woman.
