- The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the federal government to ban an upcoming film featuring actress Nancy Isime, which they have described as offensive to Muslim sensibilities.
Reports reveal that Nancy Isime recently shared a poster of the film titled Blood Brothers, where she appears wearing a niqab and holding a gun. The niqab is a traditional garment worn by Muslim women to cover their bodies and faces, leaving only their eyes visible.
The poster has sparked widespread condemnation online, with many Muslims expressing outrage over the depiction of a niqab-wearing woman engaging in criminal activities.
In response to the controversy, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the director of MURIC, issued a statement on Thursday criticizing the film as “satanic” and calling on the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to ban it.
“The upcoming film, recently unveiled by Nancy Isime, portrays women in purdah wielding weapons and robbing banks. This is Islamophobia taken to the extreme. The movie is satanic, provocative, and an insult to Muslim women,” Akintola stated.
He further alleged that the film seeks to portray Muslim women as violent criminals and could incite public hostility against them.
“This is part of an orchestrated agenda to discourage Muslim women from wearing the hijab and niqab,” he continued. “The battle against hijab-wearing Muslim women began in schools, and this film represents a new front in that war. Such hate content is dangerous and can destabilize our society if not addressed.”
MURIC has called on the NFVCB to investigate the film and impose an immediate ban, warning that its release could escalate tensions in the country.
To concerned Muslims who have reached out to the organization with complaints, Akintola urged calm and patience. “We understand your frustration, but we urge you to remain peaceful and allow the relevant authorities to take appropriate action,” he concluded.
