Suspected gunmen reportedly attacked Jumai Kefas, the mother of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, and her daughter, Atsi Kefas, along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was confirmed by the Chairman of Wukari Local Government Council, Dauda Samaila Agbu, who described the attack as “deeply troubling.”
During the ambush, Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound and was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical attention.
“Her condition was stabilized before she was airlifted to Abuja for further medical care,” Agbu stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Taraba State Police Command also confirmed the incident, describing it as an armed robbery. However, the command did not officially confirm the relationship of the victims to the governor.
Public Relations Officer Usman Abdullahi noted, “One of the vehicle’s occupants sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.”
As of the time of this report, the Taraba State Government has not issued an official statement on the incident.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue.
