An Osun State High Court in Ilesa has issued an injunction preventing Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Ilesa kingmakers from nominating a new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
The decision followed a lawsuit filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi and 10 others representing the Ofokutu Royal Family of the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House.
In addition to Governor Adeleke, other defendants include Chief Folorunso Adeniyi, the Obanla of Ijesaland, 11 Ilesa kingmakers, the Ijesa Central Traditional Council, the State Attorney General, Adesuyi Haastrup, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The applicants sought an order to stop the governor, his administration officials, and the Ilesa kingmakers from taking any action to appoint a new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland until the case concerning the stool is resolved. Justice A. Aderibigbe granted the interim injunction on December 16, 2024, preventing any further steps towards the nomination, election, or installation of the new Owa Obokun.
The case has been adjourned to January 14, 2025, for further hearing.
