Damagum, Anyanwu Threaten Legal Action Against Adeyanju Over Allege Defamation

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, and the Acting National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, have threatened to take legal action against lawyer and rights activist Deji Adeyanju over alleged defamatory remarks.

Both PDP officials, through their legal counsel, Johnson Usman, SAN, have demanded a retraction of Adeyanju’s statements and a public apology in national newspapers and on social media platforms. Failure to comply may lead to civil and criminal lawsuits.

In letters dated December 4 and 5 respectively, signed by Israel Ujah of Usman’s law firm, the officials accused Adeyanju of making damaging and inflammatory remarks that they claim were intended to tarnish their reputations.

Remember METROBLOG reported that the human rights activist Deji adeyanju alleged that the PDP acting national chairman Damagum and the party national secretary Anyanwu were part of Tinubu’s 2027 re-election plan.

One letter, titled “Demand for the Immediate Retraction of the Defamatory Statements Made Against Amb. Umar Iliya Damagun, the Acting National Chairman of PDP on Social Media Platforms: With A Call for a Corresponding Apology,” highlighted Adeyanju’s alleged derogatory comments.

The accusations stem from a podcast interview in which Adeyanju reportedly referred to Damagun as “a tea man who goes to serve tea in Femi Gbajabiamila’s house” and Anyanwu as “a Kilishi man who serves Kilishi at Gbajabiamila’s residence.” The remarks, according to the PDP leaders, undermined their standing within the party and society at large.

The letters also alleged that Adeyanju accused the PDP leadership of failing to act as a credible opposition to the ruling party, thereby damaging their public image and political ambitions.

“By describing our clients in such terms, you have cast them as unworthy of public trust or political validation. Your comments have caused them significant political embarrassment, psychological trauma, and humiliation,” Ujah wrote.

The PDP leaders emphasized that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it does not grant license to defamatory and baseless attacks. They demanded immediate corrective measures from Adeyanju to avert impending legal action.
