Dangote Refinery to export PMS to Ghana, South Africa and others

The Dangote Refinery has announced that it will be exporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to countries including Cameroon, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa in recent weeks, marking a significant milestone in its global operations.

Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, shared this update while hosting a delegation from the Japanese Business Community led by Japan’s Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo.

The company’s spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed this development in a statement, emphasizing that the refinery’s products meet international standards.

According to Edwin, the facility has also been exporting diesel worldwide and jet fuel to European markets, highlighting its international footprint. He underscored that the refinery, envisioned and built by Nigerians, is not only a point of national pride but also a testament to the capabilities of African investment and innovation.

The refinery, hailed as the world’s largest single-train facility, was designed and constructed by Dangote Industries Limited, which also acted as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor. Incorporating advanced global technologies, the facility ensures premium quality and efficiency.

Edwin expressed the company’s openness to collaboration, noting that Japanese equipment has already been integrated into both the refinery and the fertilizer plant.

Edwin further explained that the refinery is driving downstream investment, creating jobs, reducing foreign exchange outflows, and boosting Nigeria’s GDP. The polypropylene expansion is expected to significantly reduce reliance on imports of the material, which is vital for industries like packaging, textiles, and automotive manufacturing.

The Japanese delegation praised the refinery as an iconic project showcasing Nigeria’s technological advancements. Takashi Oku, Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation, described the facility as a remarkable symbol of Nigeria’s growth and innovation, reinforcing its role as Africa’s gateway. Similarly, Masahiro Tsuno, Managing Director of Itochu Nigeria Limited, referred to the refinery as a global marvel, noting its scale and automation as unparalleled.

The delegation expressed eagerness to collaborate with Dangote Industries, citing the refinery’s role in solidifying Nigeria’s position as a leader in Africa’s industrial and technological landscape.
