Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, over remarks concerning the 2020 #EndSARS protests. The suspension followed a controversial post on Ajetunmobi’s personal X account (formerly Twitter), where he alleged that most individuals involved in the burning of Television Continental (TVC) during the protests had been “hunted down and executed.”
In a statement released by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the government condemned the remarks, describing them as a misrepresentation of facts and reiterating its commitment to accuracy and professionalism in public communications. The statement emphasized that the Lagos State Government strongly opposes any form of extrajudicial action, distancing itself from the claims made by Ajetunmobi.
The suspended aide had written on X that the “full story” of the arson at TVC would eventually be revealed, claiming that many of those involved had been pursued and executed. When confronted by another user who accused him of endorsing extrajudicial killings, Ajetunmobi defended his comments, suggesting that some individuals had been killed during exchanges of gunfire with soldiers.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration reaffirmed its stance against unlawful actions, stating that such behavior does not align with its values or governance approach. The incident highlights the importance of responsible communication by public officials.
