Ex-Commissioner Ihekweme arrested in Abuja Over criticism of Imo Governor

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly arrested Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, a former commissioner and outspoken critic of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, from his residence in Abuja.

The arrest, which took place on Wednesday in the presence of his wife and children, was disclosed by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju via social media. According to Adeyanju, Ihekweme was forcibly removed from his home and transported to Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Adeyanju condemned the arrest, describing it as an assault on free speech. He claimed that Ihekweme’s only offense was his vocal criticism of Governor Uzodinma’s administration. Comparing the situation to other instances of alleged intolerance, Adeyanju stated, “Like Uzodinma, like Burna Boy.”

The development has sparked discussions about freedom of expression and the government’s response to dissenting voices. Further details about the arrest and possible charges remain unclear.
