Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to appear in court Today

The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is expected to appear before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) today, Wednesday, November 27.

On Tuesday, Bello voluntarily presented himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the company of his legal team. Shortly after his arrival, the anti-graft agency detained him to finalize clarifications ahead of his scheduled court appearance.

The former governor is set to be arraigned before Justice Maryan Anenih at the FCT High Court in Maitama. Justice Anenih had earlier scheduled the arraignment for November 27 following a public summons issued on October 3 at the request of the EFCC.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed Bello’s impending court appearance but refrained from specifying the exact time. During the last hearing, EFCC Counsel Jamiu Agoro reminded the court that the October 3 order for Bello’s appearance was still valid.

After deliberating with all parties, Justice Anenih granted an adjournment and fixed today as the return date for proceedings. Bello’s arraignment marks a critical phase in the fresh case filed against him by the EFCC, though details of the charges remain undisclosed.
