The Federal Government has designated Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations.
Additionally, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, has been declared a public holiday for New Year festivities.
This announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to Nigerians, encouraging citizens to embrace the season’s core values of love, peace, and unity. He emphasized the need for fostering harmony within families and communities and urged Nigerians to remain committed to national peace, unity, and progress as essential drivers of development.
Highlighting the significance of the season, the minister called on Nigerians to reflect on its spiritual and national implications, stating, “The Christmas season is a time for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us show kindness and extend goodwill to one another, regardless of our differences.”
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country. Tunji-Ojo also expressed optimism about the future, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration will usher in a more prosperous economy in 2025.
Concluding his message, he wished all Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
