FG Distributes Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Rivers State

The Federal Ministry of Regional Development has distributed relief materials to communities in Rivers State affected by recent floods. The initiative, part of the ministry’s annual intervention program for the Niger Delta region, aims to provide succor to flood victims across the nine states in the area.

The Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, was represented at the distribution event by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore. During the ceremony, Belgore praised the Rivers State Government for its collaboration and emphasized the importance of equitable distribution of the relief materials and empowerment tools among the affected communities.

Present at the flag-off ceremony was the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, representing Governor Siminalayi Fubara. In her address, the Deputy Governor commended the Federal Government and the Ministry of Regional Development for their timely intervention. She assured the public that the distribution of the palliatives would directly benefit those impacted by the floods.

The relief items included essential goods such as rice, vegetable oil, and mosquito nets, alongside empowerment tools like motorcycles and grinding machines.

A dedicated committee comprising representatives from the Federal Ministry and the Rivers State Government has been established to oversee the fair and efficient distribution of the materials.

This initiative underscores the commitment of both the Federal and Rivers State Governments to supporting communities affected by natural disasters and fostering resilience among vulnerable populations.
