Workers at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters in Abuja gathered in jubilation on Thursday to honor their Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, for his outstanding commitment to staff welfare.
As early as 8 a.m., employees assembled with placards bearing messages of appreciation such as “We love you Zacch,” “You’re a man of the people,” and “We support you 100%.” They sang, danced, and expressed their gratitude, creating a lively atmosphere as they awaited his arrival.
Adedeji, who has been in office for over a year, was greeted with enthusiasm as staff led him to his office amidst cheers. According to a statement by Sikiru Akinola, Adedeji’s Technical Assistant (Print Media), the workers praised him for being an administrator who prioritizes their welfare.
A Leader Who Listens and Acts
Staff members highlighted Adedeji’s dedication to improving their working conditions, particularly through a salary increase and other welfare initiatives. One employee noted:
“Zacch Adedeji is deliberate and intentional in his concern for those around him. He is not just our boss but also our friend. We gathered today to show our appreciation, something he has tried to avoid on multiple occasions. When the news of the salary increment first spread, it was received with excitement. For the first time, our union leaders openly said they could sleep peacefully, as staff had no complaints to raise.”
Another staff member commended Adedeji’s proactive approach:
“Without much fanfare, the Executive Chairman implemented salary increases and welfare packages, showing his belief that those working to meet the ambitious N19.4 trillion revenue target for 2024 deserve proper motivation. His actions have been unprecedented, reflecting his understanding of our needs.”
Unmatched Leadership in FIRS History
The workers collectively agreed that no previous Executive Chairman had been celebrated as much as Adedeji within such a short period of leadership. They described his magnanimity as unparalleled, creating a positive atmosphere across the agency.
Adedeji, visibly moved by the display, acknowledged the crowd with salutes and waves, expressing his gratitude for their support and enthusiasm.
