Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated December 16, 2024, addressed to the Ubandawaki Ward chairman of the party in Ilorin, Abdullahi described his decision as a “difficult conclusion” but one that he felt was the “only tenable option” at this time.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the PDP. After ample reflection, I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me,” he stated in the letter.
Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunities he had to serve both the state and the country while on the PDP platform.
In a telephone interview, the former minister confirmed his resignation and emphasized that he would not be leaving politics. “Yes, it’s true, but I am not quitting politics—far from it. Conversations are ongoing with other parties, and in the coming days, weeks, or months, we will make our decision known,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the nation’s challenges require collective effort, and he believes it would be a disservice to the country for anyone with something meaningful to contribute to step away from politics.
Although Abdullahi did not reveal which parties he is currently in talks with, there is growing speculation that he may be considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
