Libyan authorities have arrested four Nigerian nationals in the towns of Sabha and Bani Walid for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and testing positive for infectious diseases. During a raid conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Sabha, authorities recovered 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illegal substances from the suspects’ residence.
According to the Migrant Rescue Watch, which disclosed the arrests on Monday, the two suspects detained in Sabha have been handed over to the Sabha Security Directorate for further investigation. The advocacy group reported that the CID acted on a tip-off and discovered the illicit drugs during a search of the premises.
In a separate incident, two other Nigerian nationals, a male and a female, were apprehended in Bani Walid after routine health screenings revealed they tested positive for infectious diseases. The Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) Bureau in Bani Walid detained the pair and later transferred them to Tripoli for further processing and eventual repatriation to Nigeria.
Bani Walid, a known transit hub for migrants attempting to reach Europe, continues to see increased scrutiny from Libyan authorities as part of efforts to manage migration and public health risks.
