Gas Cylinder Explosion Claims One Life, Injures Three in Niger State

A tragic gas cylinder explosion claimed the life of an apprentice and left three others injured at Kpakungu area of Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

The incident occurred at the workshop of a vulcaniser, Mohammed, who specializes in heavy-duty vehicle tyres. The explosion, which happened around 1 p.m., was reportedly caused by a gas pump cylinder used in the shop. The blast killed an apprentice identified as Haji at the scene, while the vulcaniser, his son, and another apprentice sustained severe injuries.

Witnesses reported that the explosion not only destroyed the workshop but also shattered the fence of a nearby house. A resident, Usman Mohammed, described the loud sound as terrifying and confirmed that the deceased apprentice had been buried at the Kpakungu cemetery.

The Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the apprentices succumbed to his injuries, while the remaining victims are reportedly responding to treatment.

The incident has left the community in shock as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.
