A tragic incident has claimed the lives of 12 individuals due to a carbon monoxide leak at a ski resort in Gudauri, northern Georgia.
Police confirmed the deaths on Monday, identifying the victims as 11 foreigners and one Georgian national. They were found in a sleeping area situated above a restaurant at the popular ski station.
Preliminary investigations indicate no signs of violence on the bodies, suggesting the deaths resulted from an accidental gas leak. Carbon monoxide, a toxic, colorless, and odorless gas, is commonly produced when fuels such as natural gas, wood, or charcoal burn incompletely. Exposure to the gas can lead to severe poisoning and death by depriving the body of oxygen.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, with forensic experts examining the site in detail. The identities and nationalities of the foreign victims have not yet been disclosed.
