Renowned Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has been declared the winner of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election, securing a significant victory over the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dumelo, who ran on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), triumphed in the parliamentary election held during Ghana’s general elections on Saturday, December 7, 2024. He garnered 40,561 votes, while Alhassan received 27,377 votes.
This victory marks a turning point for Dumelo, who previously contested for the same seat in 2020 but narrowly lost to Alhassan.
The actor, who began his career in 1991 while still in school, has become a prominent figure in both Gollywood and Nollywood, appearing in numerous acclaimed movies. His win signifies a blend of his popularity in entertainment and his growing influence in Ghanaian politics.
