Governor Nwifuru gives LG Chairmen deadline to Clear Salary and Pension Backlog

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has directed the chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas to ensure all outstanding salaries and pensions are paid by 2 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024.

This directive, conveyed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, was issued during the Elders and Widows’ Party organized by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.

The governor expressed displeasure over the delays in paying local government staff and pensioners, describing the situation as unacceptable. Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the “Chartered Needs Agenda,” he warned against any acts of sabotage that could hinder the delivery of good governance to the people of Ebonyi State.

“By 2 pm tomorrow, all local government staff should have received their salaries and pensions,” Governor Nwifuru declared. He further added, “If by 2 pm tomorrow, October and November salaries are not paid, the chairmen must resign.”

In an uplifting gesture during the event, the governor approved immediate financial and material support for attendees. Each of the 5,000 elders and widows present was given N50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper, underscoring the administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups in the state.
