A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday in Kogi State when gunmen ambushed a GIGMobility bus traveling from Lagos to Abuja near Obajana along the Lokoja route, abducting all passengers onboard.
While the driver managed to escape, the passengers were taken hostage, with the kidnappers demanding ₦100 million for the release of at least one victim.
One of the abductees had just returned from her convocation in the Benin Republic. A friend of the victim revealed details of the ransom demand on social media, pleading for help to secure her release.
Another eyewitness described the scene, noting that the bus’s windshields were shattered, and only the driver was left behind.
GIGMobility confirmed the attack in a statement on Sunday, expressing deep regret and pledging support to the affected passengers and their families.
The company called on authorities to act swiftly to ensure the victims’ safe return.
This incident highlights the growing security concerns along the Lagos-Abuja route, where highway robberies and kidnappings have become increasingly frequent.
Citizens are urging law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abductees and address the escalating insecurity in the region.
