I was disappointed” – Ruud van Nistelrooy Opens Up on Man Utd Exit, Leicester Appointment

New Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed details of his conversation with Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim following his departure from Old Trafford last month.

Van Nistelrooy, who briefly served as United’s interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, admitted feeling “hurt” and “disappointed” by the circumstances surrounding his exit.

Van Nistelrooy stepped in to stabilize the team but was not retained as part of Amorim’s coaching staff when the Portuguese manager took over.

Reflecting on the experience, Van Nistelrooy stated, “The moment I took over the interim job, I said I was here to help United, and I truly meant it. So I was very disappointed, and it hurts that I had to leave.”

The Dutchman emphasized his emotional connection to the club, noting, “The only assistant role I would have considered was at United because of the bond I share with the club, its people, and the fans.”

Despite his disappointment, Van Nistelrooy acknowledged the rationale behind Amorim’s decision. “As a manager myself, I understand the dynamics. Ruben and I had a conversation—man to man, manager to manager. It was a candid discussion, and I appreciated his honesty. It helped me come to terms with the situation.”

The dialogue with Amorim motivated Van Nistelrooy to explore new opportunities, leading to his appointment at Leicester City. “That conversation helped me move forward and start discussions about new possibilities, which lifted my spirits,” he concluded.

Van Nistelrooy now looks ahead to his tenure at Leicester City, eager to apply his managerial expertise and build a successful chapter with the Foxes.
