IGP visits family of Kwara man who died in police detention

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has met with the family of Tunji Abdulquadri Jimoh, a suspect who died while in custody at the Kwara State Police Command headquarters’ cell in Ilorin.

The IGP also directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the case for a thorough and swift investigation to ensure justice is served.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP visited Kwara State on Sunday, December 22, 2024, to personally extend his condolences to the grieving family. He was received by the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Sadiq Atiku Fulani, who spoke on behalf of the family. During the visit, Egbetokun expressed deep regret over the incident and assured the family that every effort would be made to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.

The statement emphasized that the IGP has tasked the FCID with ensuring a diligent and impartial investigation into the case, while also reassuring the family and the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to justice, professionalism, and accountability.

The IGP reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional conduct among its personnel and called for calm, urging all stakeholders to trust in the process of law to address the matter appropriately.
