The Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has facilitated the repatriation of over 150 Nigerian migrants, primarily women and children, from Libya.
The operation was carried out through Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an advocacy group, announced the development on Tuesday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the successful coordination between Libyan authorities and the IOM to return the migrants to Nigeria.
The group’s statement confirmed that the majority of those repatriated were women and children, emphasizing the humanitarian nature of the effort.
In a separate development, Libyan authorities recently apprehended four Nigerian nationals in Sabha and Bani Walid on charges related to drug trafficking and health concerns after testing positive for infectious diseases. The arrests further underline ongoing challenges faced by migrants in the region.
