Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, a prominent Islamic scholar and revered preacher from Oyo State, has passed away at the age of 84.
The news was announced on Friday by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Ibadan-based cleric, in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Akewugbagold expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Sheikh Bello as a fearless preacher and mentor. In his post, he prayed for God’s mercy on the late scholar’s soul, writing,
“Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his Creator.
Sultanul Wahizeen of Yorubaland, Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Al-Jannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are full of grief and our eyes full of tears, but we say nothing except what pleases our Creator, the sole commander of life and death – Allah.”
The scholar’s son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, widely known as Aponle Anobi, also confirmed the news in a social media post, sharing a picture of Sheikh Bello alongside crying emojis but without further details.
Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello was born in 1940 to the family of Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan. His passing marks the end of an era for his numerous followers and admirers who respected his contributions to Islam and his unwavering dedication to preaching.
