Dr. Wayas, who passed away on November 30, 2021, will be laid to rest on November 30, 2024, in his hometown, Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State. In preparation for his burial, the Nigerian Senate held a valedictory session on November 28, 2024, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The session highlighted Dr. Wayas’ enduring legacy and his significant contributions to Nigeria’s development.
