The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, has inaugurated the construction of the Abia International Airport at Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking at the event, Keyamo emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to connecting Abia and the Southeast region to the global economy.
Describing Abia as the heartbeat of Southeast industrialization, Keyamo commended Governor Alex Otti for his vision in upgrading the project from a proposed airstrip to an international airport. He also lauded the governor’s dedication to providing the necessary counterpart funding for the project. Keyamo assured the host communities that their residents would be prioritized for employment and appointments when the airport becomes operational.
Adding to the event, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, announced that the federal government would roll out a special program for Nigerian youths in January 2025, signaling a broader commitment to youth empowerment.
Governor Alex Otti, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support of developmental projects in the Southeast. He highlighted the international airport as a critical part of his administration’s efforts to extend economic growth beyond the cities of Aba and Umuahia. Otti noted that the airport would stimulate significant economic activity in the state, creating new business opportunities and boosting Abia’s economy upon completion.
He further assured the host communities of fair compensation for lands acquired for the project. Otti also pledged to revive the Nsulu Games Village, reinforcing his administration’s broader vision for infrastructural and economic development in the region.
