Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, is set to commission the first phase of a groundbreaking 10,800-bed hostel project. This development, spearheaded by the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, marks a major step forward in improving student welfare and tackling accommodation challenges at the institution.
Tokunbo Wahab, the former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education and now the state environmental czar, announced the milestone via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He described the project as one of the most ambitious during his tenure, implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The initiative involved collaboration with seven reputable investors and reflects a commitment to innovation and infrastructure development in education.
Wahab credited the successful completion of the first phase to the collective efforts of key players, including the Lagos State Office of Public-Private Partnerships, the LASU management led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and other stakeholders. He emphasized the significance of this achievement, calling it a transformative moment for the university and its students.
The hostel project is expected to significantly alleviate accommodation challenges at LASU, enhancing the overall student experience and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence. Wahab expressed pride in the initiative, highlighting its readiness for commissioning by Governor Sanwo-Olu as a testament to the government’s dedication to addressing critical infrastructure needs.
As LASU prepares to commission this landmark project, students and stakeholders are optimistic about the improved living conditions and the opportunities it brings. The completion of this phase not only addresses immediate accommodation needs but also sets the foundation for further advancements, solidifying LASU’s position as a premier academic institution in Nigeria.
