Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged unwavering support for his Osun State counterpart, Governor Ademola Adeleke, amid political challenges.
Makinde also dismissed claims by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje that the ruling party is set to dominate Oyo and Osun states.
Makinde made these remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Stadium-Testing Ground-Ilesa Garage section of the Oba Adesoji Aderemi Ring Road in Osogbo.
He praised Governor Adeleke for prioritizing Osun residents’ welfare and completing projects initiated by previous administrations, contrasting this with leaders who abandon projects for political reasons. “Adeleke has proven himself a true leader by completing this road project, regardless of who started it. This is the kind of leadership we need,” Makinde stated.
Responding to Ganduje’s assertion that the APC is targeting the South-West following victories in Edo and Ondo, Makinde criticized the party’s overconfidence and reiterated that ongoing legal challenges to the APC’s victories in those states remain unresolved.
Makinde assured PDP supporters that Osun and Oyo would resist APC’s push, emphasizing, “The people of Osun State must come first, and they have already shown their preference. Two years ago, they chose PDP, and they will continue to stand firm. As for Edo and Ondo, the battle is not over; the courts will decide.”
Governor Adeleke, in his address, also acknowledged former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s role in initiating the Osogbo Ring Road project. He reaffirmed his commitment to completing projects inherited from past administrations, emphasizing, “Leadership is about service, not credit.”
Adeleke further highlighted the importance of road safety on newly completed projects, directing state agencies to enforce traffic regulations and install speed breakers to curb accidents. “Our people’s safety is paramount, and we must ensure our infrastructure serves them without compromising their well-being,” he said.
Both governors called for unity, responsible governance, and a focus on delivering meaningful projects that prioritize citizens over politics.
