Minister Orders Investigation Into Alleged Salary Deductions for Paramilitary Officers

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has initiated an investigation into reports of salary deductions and unpaid promotion arrears affecting officers from key paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Prisons Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).

The affected officers alleged that their salaries had been subjected to deductions via the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and expressed frustration over unpaid allowances despite the release of funds. They also noted discrepancies, pointing out that their counterparts in the Federal Fire Service and other agencies under the Ministry of Interior had already received their promotions and entitlements.

Urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene, the officers appealed for transparency in the disbursement of their arrears and a resolution to the alleged deductions.

In response, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, assured the aggrieved personnel that the matter is being addressed.

In a statement released on Sunday, Ja’afaru said, “The attention of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has been drawn to complaints from officers alleging deductions from their salaries by IPPIS, as well as delays in the payment of promotion arrears.

“Consequently, the Minister and Chairman of the Board, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter. Officers of the paramilitary services are urged to remain calm as the Board works towards a resolution.”

The statement reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to ensuring that the concerns of its officers are resolved swiftly and fairly, emphasizing the importance of upholding the welfare and dedication of the personnel serving under its purview.
