President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the economic reforms initiated under his administration are beginning to yield positive outcomes, despite the initial hardships they caused.
Speaking at the 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), the President, represented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, emphasized that the tough decisions were necessary to steer the country away from economic collapse.
He noted that his government is transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-focused one. Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices made by citizens, calling for continued patience and support.
“The need to secure the future of our children and pull the country back from the brink necessitated the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates,” the President said. “I understand the challenges these decisions have brought, and I sincerely wish there were easier alternatives.”
Tinubu highlighted that the macroeconomic environment is stabilizing, and the microeconomic improvements, which directly impact citizens, are gradually becoming evident.
“With time, every household will enjoy better living conditions and brighter prospects for the future, by the grace of Almighty God,” he said.
Addressing national security, Tinubu assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country. “Our security architecture is making progress, and the negative narratives of the past are changing for the better. We remain focused on creating a nation of peace and prosperity for all,” he added.
The President reiterated his openness to constructive criticism and appealed for understanding as his administration works toward long-term solutions for Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.
