Fatiha Abdulhakeem, the 18-year-old accused of murdering retired Niger State Permanent Secretary, Adamu Jagaba, has died while in police custody in Minna. The police have yet to reveal the exact cause of death.
Abdulhakeem, who was recently paraded by Niger State Commissioner of Police Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, had confessed to being the principal actor in the murder of Jagaba, which occurred at the victim’s block industry near the PDP secretariat in Minna.
In a previous interview, Abdulhakeem admitted he was hired by a group, including members of the victim’s staff, to carry out the killing. He revealed he had received N100,000 as part of the payment for the act and was promised further compensation after selling Jagaba’s stolen Toyota Camry.
The suspect graphically detailed the crime, admitting to stabbing the victim twice in the neck, sitting on his chest, and repeatedly striking him in the head with a stapler until he succumbed to his injuries. Despite Jagaba’s pleas for mercy, Abdulhakeem confessed he felt no compassion, citing drug use as a factor that numbed his emotions.
Confirming Abdulhakeem’s death, Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun stated that the suspect had complained of severe stomach pain. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for treatment but died while receiving medical care. The police are yet to provide further details regarding the incident.
