Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, has stated that Nigeria would have been in a better position had Labour Party candidate Peter Obi emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Abaribe criticized the current administration, accusing President Bola Tinubu of nepotism and asserting that such tendencies would not exist under Obi’s leadership.
He argued that Peter Obi’s governance style would have been more inclusive, highlighting his belief that Obi lacks the nepotistic traits seen in the present government. Abaribe cited Tinubu’s appointment of four ministers from Ogun State as a blatant example of favoritism, describing it as unfair and detrimental to national unity.
The senator advised the South-East region to prioritize self-reliant development instead of depending on federal interventions, given the perceived lack of fairness in resource and power allocation.
Abaribe also applauded the recent arrest of Simon Ekpa, a controversial figure associated with the Biafran independence movement, while reiterating the importance of releasing Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). According to him, Kanu’s release would pave the way for peace and stability in the South-East.
His comments underline ongoing concerns about regional equity, governance, and the path toward a more united Nigeria.
