Nigerian Army kills Notorious Bandit Al’jan in Zamfara, Brings Relief to Tsafe Residents

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized a notorious bandit known as “Al’jan” in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, a move that has brought much-needed relief to residents of the region.

For years, Al’jan, originally from Niger Republic, had terrorized communities across Tsafe LGA. Initially working as a motorcycle taxi operator, he eventually became involved in criminal activities after forging alliances with Fulani herders. According to counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama, Al’jan later became a key member of a notorious bandit group led by Hassan Bamamu, actively participating in raids, kidnappings, and other acts of violence in the area.

Leveraging his extensive knowledge of Tsafe and its surroundings, Al’jan played a critical role in orchestrating several attacks. He was also implicated in high-profile killings, including those of Anas Umar Dan Kanti, Alhaji Musa Ille, and a Navy officer whose name remains undisclosed.

Three weeks ago, security forces ended his reign of terror during a joint operation between soldiers and local vigilantes in the Mada and Yandoton Daji areas of Tsafe LGA. The coordinated ambush led to the elimination of Al’jan and several of his associates. Residents of Bamamu village, his last known hideout, confirmed his death after identifying his remains.

The successful operation has brought a renewed sense of security and hope to the people of Tsafe, particularly those living along the Tsafe-Gusau road, a region previously plagued by frequent attacks.
