Nigerian Government Submits Extradition Request for Simon Ekpa

The Nigerian government has officially submitted the necessary documentation to Finland for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator and suspected instigator of terror-related activities.

This development was confirmed by General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday.

Speaking on the matter, Musa stated, “I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken.”

Ekpa was arrested by Finnish authorities in November 2024, alongside four others, on charges linked to terrorism, including incitement to violence and funding terrorism.

A Finnish court in Lahti ordered Ekpa’s remand, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.

Ekpa is accused of using social media platforms to spread separatist propaganda and incite violence in southeastern Nigeria as part of his advocacy for the region’s secession.

This extradition request represents a significant step by the Nigerian government to address separatist activities and bring individuals responsible for promoting violence to justice.
