The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on party leaders from the North-Central region to nominate a replacement for former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
This directive was announced in a communiqué read by BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara following an emergency meeting held on Thursday in Abuja. The board urged stakeholders from the region to convene and propose a suitable candidate for the vacant position.
During the meeting, BoT members assessed the state of the party and the nation, expressing deep concern over the internal challenges currently facing the PDP. They highlighted the pressing need for unity, stability, and public confidence within the party.
The BoT emphasized that the National Working Committee (NWC) must take immediate action to restore harmony by upholding the party’s constitution and respecting the zoning arrangements for NWC offices across the country’s geo-political zones.
In the communiqué, the BoT also urged the PDP Governors’ Forum to foster greater unity and collaborate with other party organs to address lingering issues promptly.
The board criticized the NWC for its continued delay in convening a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which it described as undermining the trust of party members and giving the impression that the PDP has been hijacked by certain interests.
The BoT demanded that the NWC honor its commitment to hold the NEC meeting as scheduled in February 2025, warning that any further postponement would worsen the party’s problems and risk dire consequences for its future.
The communiqué concluded with a strong call for decisive leadership from the NWC, emphasizing that resolving these pressing issues and providing a clear direction is critical for the PDP to regain its footing.
